A few days ago I was contacted by a lovely new blogger, Autumn Accepts, and was asked to write a guest post for her. I liked this post so much that I want to share it with you all on this blog too, but if you could go check out Autumn’s blog too that would be amazing 🙂

Dear Autumn,

I had this whole idea of what I was going to talk about, it would be tragic and heart-warming and honestly it would have been an award-winning performance… But it would have been just that, a performance. You see, I write a lot about my past and all of it is true. From the sexual abuse, to the death of a friend, to the depression, to the anxiety I am still dealing with now. And I was going to write about that again. Until, for once in my life, I looked around me instead of looking over my shoulder.

And do you know what I saw? Well, I saw my bedroom walls to begin with. Painted dark brown, pretty cute right? Then I thought about everyone who doesn’t have that. Some people don’t have four walls, let alone four walls they can call theirs. Then I remembered the reason why my four walls are painted brown. That is because this was my brother’s room, and that dark brown was the result of countless pots of paint and hours of work by my parents. Then I remembered all the people who don’t have their family with them, or they don’t have parents that will drive to the paint shop three times just so their child can pick the perfect colour.

I looked to my left. I see books, and a whole lot of them at that! Overflowing, scruffy, and unorganised, but then I remembered the people who can’t afford to go to school, let alone those who can’t afford books. On top of the books I see a photo frame, the couple inside are awkward and dorky and it’s definitely not their best photo! But I am so grateful that I could be present in that moment, the first party my boyfriend took me to, the one where we drank a little bit too much and we danced badly but we were so in love. Then I remember all those people who can’t show their love, who fear walking down the street with their partner, who cannot get married because a deceitful government says it is immoral.

I looked to my right. I see a window, looking out upon the beautiful English countryside. Okay, my window actually looks out onto a carpark. But then I think about all the people whose windows are wrongfully blocked with bars, the people whose only crimes are standing up for equality, or falling in love.

Lastly, I look right ahead of me. And I see the World. I see all the information known to man, I see my friends who live thousands of miles away, I see infinite opportunities. Then I think of all the people who cannot afford computers, or those whose corrupt governments say that the internet will corrupt their minds.

As I look around I think of how lucky I am to be here, and how lucky I am to have the support of family and friends to help me. Maybe today you could take a look around and, just for one day, think about all the things you are grateful for.

Thank you for reading,

The British Tag!

I saw this post on The Life of an Anxious Teen (you should definitely check it out) and I thought I’d give it a go!

  • How many cups of tea do you have a day and how many sugars? Oh no. I have a tea addiction so this question is unfair! I have cut down on my daily tea allowance, so I drink about 3-4 cups of tea a day. My first and last cup of tea of the day is a green tea, and then during the day I have good old PG Tips with 2 sweeteners.
  • Favourite part of the roast dinner? My family are very traditional so every Sunday we have a roast dinner, and my favourite part is the roast potatoes, yum 😛 I’m really picky with the way I eat dinner, and my friends all say I eat weirdly. I hate my food touching, and I can’t stand when sauce touches my food, and I eat my least favourite bits of the meal first so I have the nicest bit to look forward to 🙂 Do any of you do this too? Please tell me I’m not alone!
  • Favourite dunking biscuits? Every biscuit is a good dunking biscuit! My favourites are custard creams, ginger nuts, and Jammie Dodgers…mmmm 😛
  • Favourite quintessentially British pastime? Drinking tea is the biggest one! But I do love a bit of Doctor Who, and standing in queues seems to take up a large portion of my life!
  • Favourite word? Literally. I literally use literally in literally every single sentence. I am so sorry for those of you who hate the incorrect use of this word, but I can’t help it!
  • Cockney Rhyming Slang? For those of you who don’t know, cockney rhyming slang are phrases that are used typically in London and they basically rhyme with what the phrase means. I did not explain that very well! I’ll give you an example, “Apples and Pears” means stairs. The one I use the most is “Cream Crackered” which means knackered (sleepy).
  • Favourite sweet? All of them! My absolute favourites are Haribo because they’re amazing! My work colleagues always buy them for me, and they always bring them out if I’ve just had to deal with a bad customer.
  • No. 1 British person? It’s got to be the one and only Rowan Atkinson (A.K.A. Mr Bean)! I feel like he accurately represents the true British person… awkward and anti-social! He is a brilliant actor and comedian and the star of our Olympic Opening Ceremony.

  • Favourite shop/restaurant? Woolworths. If you’re British you’ll understand the heartbreak that name causes. Woolworths was an old British shop that pretty much sold everything you could possibly need, but then in 2009 the company went bust and their stores closed forever 😥
  • What British song pops into your head? #Oh I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want. I wanna really, really, really wanna zigazig ahhhh…# Wannabe by The Spice Girls, true British pop!
  • Marmite? Oh my gosh, no. That foul substance should be illegal!

I feel like I am adequately British, yay! Thank you for reading 🙂

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!

Thank you so much to Drifting Lexi for nominating me for this award!! If you haven’t checked out her blog, you need to because she’s awesome!

Here’s the rules…

  • Thank and link the blogger who nominated you. A massive thank you to Drifting Lexi!!
  • Answer the questions the nominator has provided.
  1. What makes you motivated to blog? My followers. Hearing from others who are going through the same things I am, and having people tell me my posts make them smile or have helped them makes me want to blog. Plus, I love it! I love interacting with people of all ages, races, sexualities, genders, and religions 🙂
  2. What’s your favourite thing to write about on your blog? I write about so much on my blog, so this is a really hard question! I like writing about things that I’m passionate about, like mental health and human rights etc.
  3. What is your favourite food? I’m such a boring person when it comes to food! I like really bland flavours, so if I cook myself pasta I’ll just have pasta by itself and I can’t eat anything remotely spicy. So this is going to sound really stupid but my favourite food is sweet and salted popcorn. I could eat that for the rest of my life and be happy 😛
  4. If you had to pick a favourite book, what would it be? Nope. Can’t do it. I love so many books. A book that I’m loving right now though is All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. It’s amazing, and I won’t spoil it but I would definitely recommend it!
  5. What was the last song you listened to? I worked last night (I deliver Chinese takeaway with my dad) so we had our favourite Fall Out Boy album on and we were singing to that! The last song I remember was Yule Shoot Your Eye Out, because who doesn’t like singing along to Christmas songs with their dad in the middle of June?
  6. What items are closest to you at this moment? Well my butt is on this incredibly uncomfortable chair, my elbows are on my dining room table (naughty), and my fingers (yup all 10 because that’s how I roll) are on my keyboard. Then all around me I have my junk that I’ve managed to spread all around me, like tons of post-it-notes, all my notes and resources for my tutoring lessons, and my mouse which I have to use because the touchpad on my computer refuses to work 😦
  7. Do you have any tattoos? No, I’m a giant wimp so I doubt I could last through a whole tattoo. Plus, I’m so indecisive I could never decide what i want to be permanently etched into my skin forever!
  8. What are you currently reading? Oops, I already answered this question- All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven 🙂
  9. Do you prefer going to shops and buying items or do you prefer to shop online? I like going to shops. I like going to charity shops in particular, because some of the stuff I’ve bought there is amazing! But I don’t really shop very often because I still feel really self-conscious and I get very nervous being in large crowds 😦
  10. What are you next looking forward to? Well, my 18th birthday is in just over 2 weeks so that’s pretty cool! I don’t have anything planned, so I think I’m just going to hang out with my family and boyfriend. And it’s my boyfriend’s 20th birthday in just under two weeks and I’m so excited to go shopping with him! I’ve saved up £100 to take him on a shopping spree (he doesn’t know this yet) but he hasn’t been able to buy new clothes in a year because money is pretty tight so I’m giving him £100 to spend on whatever he wants, it’s going to be amazing!
  • Nominate 10 other bloggers. I’m going to try and find some amazing bloggers who haven’t already been nominated, but I think there are hundreds of bloggers I follow that deserve this award!

Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award (Take 2!)

DISCLAIMER: I’ve already published this once, but thanks to my amazing followers I’ve been nominated twice more so I thought I’d better post this again to show off my amazing readers!

Firstly, a MASSIVE thank you to A Girl With ADHD who nominated me, and if you haven’t checked her blog out yet you really should because she’s amazing! *EDIT: I’ve just discovered I’ve also been nominated by Everything And Nothing so a MASSIVE thank you to her too! *EDIT 2: Another MASSIVE thank you to Paradoxical Sadness for the nomination! I love you guys so much 🙂 This is my first award so I’m ridiculously excited! So here we go…

  • Thank the person who nominated you. Oops, I got a bit carried away in my introduction and already covered this one. But oh well, I’m sure she wouldn’t object to two thank you’s. So,  thank you Ellie! And thank you Everything And Nothing!
  • Put the award logo on your site. There you go…

One logo, as requested.

  • Nominate seven blogs. Oooh, this is going to be tough! I love so many blogs on this site! But these are a few of my favourites…
  1. The Crazy Perfectionist
  2. It’s My Teenage Life
  3. Alaska Wild
  4. My Personal Teen Life
  5. Cloud Busting
  6. Sleepless in Steveston
  7. My Irrelevant Thoughts
  • Answer the questions.
  1. In one word how would you like your readers to describe your blog? Fantabulous. Need I say more 😉
  2. Which is your most favourite post among your blog posts and why? I think it would have to be Let’s Talk About Autism. This is the post that had the most passion behind it, and I think that shows! It’s the post I’m most proud of because I think it helps show people that there is still discrimination against those with learning difficulties and that shouldn’t happen.
  3. What, or who, inspires most of your blog posts? Usually my posts are just about things that I’m angry about, so sorry guys for moaning way too much! But a lot of my posts happen to be about my boyfriend, and I guess he is probably one of the most inspirational people in my life (don’t tell him that though, he’ll never let me forget!).
  4. What do you aspire to accomplish this year? This year is going to be one of the most important years of my life! I’ll be turning 18 and moving to London to start University, so I think my main goal is to do this without falling apart!
  5. What do you aspire to learn this year? This question has two answers. I want to learn more about the human body, how and why we function the way we do, and how I can help when the body doesn’t work the way it should (for those of you who don’t know, I’m studying biomedical science at Uni so I’m super nerdy sorry). But I also want to learn about myself, about who I am when I have to live independently.
  6. What is your most favourite book and why? No. I can’t. This is like a mother choosing her favourite child! I have always loved reading and have read everything from Harry Potter, to Dracula, to The Fault in Our Stars and they’ve all effected me in one way or another. If you want more information on the books I like you can check out this post!
  7. What’s the most courageous thing you’ve done? Hmm, this is a tough. Does it count that I’m a sister? I’d do anything for my brother, and that means sometimes I’ve had to be brave. Like when he had a nose bleed and kept being sick, I dealt with it. When he thought he heard a noise downstairs, I investigated. And I can’t forget that time when he was 6 and kicked a football through our shed window. That was the first (and pretty much only) time I’d ever lied to my parents when I said the wind did it. Yeah right! They knew, and I knew they knew but I wasn’t about to let him get in trouble. Of course we argue, but being an older sister means I will protect that boy with my life and God help the person who tries to hurt him!
  8. Who is your female role model? I’ve just realised that two of my biggest role models (Stephen Hawkings and Steven Frayne) are guys. So, I’m going to talk about my top role model…my mum. Sorry that’s so cliche, but it’s true! She works two jobs, as does my dad, so we don’t get a lot of time together but if I need help or if I just want to talk she’s always there for me. And she also fuels my weirdness! Never has she dismissed a question I’ve asked as stupid, and we’ve had so many in-depth discussions about random things. I wouldn’t change her for the world, love ya mum!

And there we go. Thank you for reading and thank you Ellie (that’s the third thank you, I hope you’re getting the message :P) for giving me my first award! And I can’t wait to see the posts from my nominations 🙂
